ARRA 2009 Summer Youth Employment Program (SYEP)

The TENCO Workforce Investment Area’s summer program is available to help economically disadvantaged youths, ages 16-21. TENCO anticipates serving 200 local area youth. The WIA Summer Youth Program provides employability training and a paid work experience opportunity. Workers will be paid minimum wage for approximately seven weeks off employment. This program begins in June and ends in July. All youth who participate must meet economic eligibility guidelines. Past projects sponsored by WIA have included: * Community improvement projects * Clerical assistance * Beautification projects * Facility maintenance Employers will be government, non-profit and for-profit entities.  Examples of employers include:  Public libraries, school systems, city, health department, hospitals, parks, housing authorities, employment office, KCTCS, Rural Electric, Recycling Center, etc.
